Quality, safety, environment, security and a strict alcohol & drugs policy
Quality
GBS uses the documented procedures and instructions of the quality management system as a guideline for the actions of management and personnel. This system is paintened by means of internal and external evaluations.
The necessary people and resources will be made available in order to continuously improve the effectiveness of the aforementioned system.
Objectives:
- to preserve short and long-term operational continuity;
- to pursue continuous improvement (P-D-C-A-circle);
- to achieve the highest level of service to our customers and the highest level of efficiency in the use of the available resources;
- to comply with the wish of a growing number of our buyers and clients to coorperate ISO 9001 certified suppliers in the future to the greatest possbile extent;
- to demonstrate that GBS complies with the statutory requirements and regulations of central and local authorities;
Management tries to achieve these objectives:
by operating on the basis of our quality manual, by setting up, implementing, maintaining and improving a quality management system that is based on the ISO 9001 standard and by means of the registration and analysis of all identified shortcomings in the service provision. GBS aims to continuously reduce the number of shortcomings that are caused by GBS.
Safety
In addition to the quality management system, GBS undertakes to add the following codes of conduct as a basic principe of our safety policy.These codes of conduct serve as guidelines for the actions of management, personnel and third parties who carry our projects for GBS. This system is maintained by means of internal and external evaluations and corrections.
The crew of GBS is obligated to work according to the Safety Management System (SMS). The SMS is intended as a reference in the daily operations of the barges of GBS. Because of the use of the instructions, procedures, and information from the manual it is possible to proceed the work in a good, responsible and safe manner.
Objectives:
- to comply with all statutory requirements, oblogations and legislations in the fields of working conditions and safety;
- not to injure people or damage property;
- to consciously protect our surroundings: in other words, not causing any spills or environmental damage;
- to have and control a solid, substantiated emergency plan and crisis management plan;
- to always use materials and energy efficiently during our operations;
- to develop our service accordingly
- to play a leading role in the industry by promoting positive experiences;
- to control and manage the HSSE aspects in our daily activities by means of an adjusted prevention system;
- to develop a culture where all GBS employees and third parties support these basic principles.
Environment
GBS explicitly dedicates itself to the protection and maintenance of the maritime environment in which our vessels navigate. We apply strict standards to prevent pollution, we comply with legislation and we try to continuously improve our environmental measures. This system is maintened by means of internal and external evaluations and corrections. Calculated and well thought-out use of transport activities for the environment, zero spills and a proactive approach to environmental matters.
Objectives:
- to comply with all statutory requirements, obligations and legislation in the field of the environment;
- to consciously protect our environment, such as the air, water and land;
- to not cause any (0) spills or environmental damage;
- to have and control a solid, substantiated emergency plan and crisis management plan in the event of environmental incidents;
- to always use materials and energy sufficiently during our operations;
- to develop our service accordingly.

Security
GBS implements measures or precautionary measures that are required in order to reduce theft or misuse of hardous substances as a result of which people, goods or the environment may be negatively affected. This system is maintened by means of internal evaluations.
Objectives:
ADN 1.3 Training
People who work here and whose duties relate to the transport of hazardous substances must have received training in accordance with the requirements attached to their responsibilities and duties by the transport of hazardous substances. This training/extra training complies with the provisions in ADN 1.3.
ADN 1.10 Security
- Proof of ID bearing a photo of every crew member is held on board during the journey.
- Short and long-term operational continuity is safeguarded by notifying all members of staff involved in the transport of hazardous substances in accordance with ADN 1.10.
Alcohol-drugs and medication policy
GBS undertakes to pursue a strict alcohol, drugs and medication policy in addition to the quality management system. Disciplinary action will be taken against members of staff who violate the rules set out in this policy (drugs and alcohol in the workplace). This sytem is maintened by means of internal evaluations that follow on from periodic, unannouced checks.
